Dennis Leger Obituary
He leaves his devoted wife of 39 years, Ann (Brodeur) Leger; his three loving daughters, Sharon Shivick and her husband Thomas of Spencer, Michelle Wassell and her husband Robert of Leicester and Rebecca Leger and her partner Timothy Pike of Auburn; a brother, Robert J. Leger and his wife Virginia of Shrewsbury; his twin sister, Dianne Ernst and her husband James of Florida; two adored grandchildren, Thomas and Grace Shivick; many nieces and nephews; and numerous life-long friendships. He is predeceased by a sister, Jeannette M. Leger.
Dennis was born to the late Robert and Loretta (Arsenault) Leger, October 14, 1951 in Worcester, MA. He graduated from Burncoat High. During the Vietnam War, Dennis served our country in the United States Army.
Dennis was a Rehabilitation Counselor at Worcester State Hospital for over 30 years, retiring in November due to illness. He truly enjoyed his work, patients and co-workers. In his spare time, Dennis was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as the Masons. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing, spending long hours on his boat with friends and family, always looking to catch a bigger bass than anyone else. Dennis also loved boxing and was a Deputy Boxing Commissioner in Worcester for many years. In addition, he was an avid ice hockey fan and was President of the Worcester Ice Cats Booster Club. Dennis was known best for his sense of humor and huge personality; always having a joke ready to tell. He was a kind, caring and gentle man, always wanting to help, anyway he could. Lastly and most importantly, Dennis loved his family and spending time with them and his grandchildren meant everything to him.
Dennis's family would like to thank everyone for their support, kind words, visits, and prayers during Dennis' extended illness.
A funeral service for Dennis will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, February 3rd in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 4:00pm until 7:00 pm in the funeral home prior to Dennis's funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Indigent Fund c/o Worcester State Hospital, 305 Belmont Street, Worcester, MA 01605. Not only did Dennis and I share the same name...we also shared the love we felt toward the patients we worked with. Dennis always went "the extra mile" to see to it that every patient who came into the Social Center was made to feel "special". Dennis was a wonderful role model for me and we became very close friends. He often told me how much I made him laugh and how impressed he was to see how hard I worked in the Center. I will never forget the Fourth of July parties at Jims where Ann was helping Maria and as usual you were the life of the party with your wit, charm, and the biggest smile from ear to ear. God has gained quite a man. His gain, our great loss of a friend.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Leger family. Dennis was a good friend to so many people that I don't think anyone truly knows how many hearts he touched. He was a good friend to me and my mother, always available with a good laugh or bigger than life story.
