Derrick Kendrick Obituary
WORCESTER - Derrick L. Kendrick, 45, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at his home surrounded by family after a bravely fought battle with glioblastoma.
He leaves his daughter, Liberty Kendrick; his partner, Alison Perry and her children, Shane and Rhaegan Perry; his mother, Mary (Rauscher) Marengo of Worcester; his father, Donald Kendrick and his wife Gayle of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Megan Jusczyk and her husband Glen of Plainville, and Amy Marengo and her partner Nathan Blake of Gloucester; two brothers, Dan L. Kendrick and Daryl L. Kendrick, both of Jacksonville; his maternal grandmother Ada (Buccelly) Rauscher of Worcester; a niece, Malia; three nephews, Kole, Blake, and Tucker; his former wife, Wendy (Magnuson) Kendrick of Sutton; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Derrick was born in Frankfurt, Germany. He lived a large part of his life in the Worcester area. He was a graduate of Sutton High School and the Northern Institute in Manchester, England before he worked with the engineering support group at EMC for many years.
Derrick was a modern version of a Renaissance man. He was a professional football player in Sweden for many years, playing several positions, including quarterback. He also loved music and was an accomplished musician, writing and recording music for both guitar and piano.
Derrick had many other interests: He was a major sports fan; he had a vast knowledge of information in a variety of subjects that prepared him well for Jeopardy each evening; he enjoyed traveling in Europe and visiting the beaches of Cape Cod regularly; he also adored his family, especially his daughter Liberty, and spent countless hours playing games with Liberty and her friends.
Calling hours are Thursday, November 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. There will be a celebration of Derrick's life in the funeral home on Friday, November 30, at Noon.
In lieu of flowers, Derrick's family suggests donations to the For Kids' Sake Foundation in honor of his niece Malia who is a neuroblastoma survivor. The mailing address is 550 Kelley Blvd., North Attleboro, MA 02760.

With deep sadness we extend our condolences to Derricks entire family. Derrick was always so much fun to be around. I will never forget the football game in the snow that time at the camp. Competing against Derrick laid me up on the couch for days. There's also the times of gathering around and singing along to his guitar with family and friends. Derrick, where do i start, I love you like my own, and I will miss you dearly. You are so special to us, and you will be missed by so many people, I just want to share portion of something your little cousin Sarah wrote to us that just describes the kind of person you are: "I still remember that night at "Mr. Taylor's" (that's always how dad refers to him anyways) when we sat around Derrick and listened to him play music, and a few years later when he made me feel cool about learning the bass and reminded me about all the female bassists out there rockin their hearts out."....This is who you are..loving life, living life, making everyone laugh, or feel special.
