Donald W. McNeish

Donald W. McNeish, age 86, of Windham, NH, formerly of Hill, NH and Acton, MA. died August 31, 2008 at Notre Dame Long Term Health Center in Worcester, MA after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Barry) McNeish and father of the late Kathryn McNeish.

Born and raised in Winthrop, MA he was a graduate of Cushing Academy and Amherst College where he excelled in sports. His college years were interrupted by WWII where he was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Force. After graduating from college Mr. McNeish entered the business world working in sales for U.S. Gypsum. He spent most of his career in retail brokerage working for Breck, McNeish & Nagle and later PaineWebber (UBS) from which he retired as a Vice President in 1988. Don was extremely active in the Acton Minutemen, Acton Youth Hockey, the Acton Baptist Church and the Lions club. He was an enthusiastic gardener and also had his own apple orchard in Hill, NH for many years. His real passion was baseball. He was an avid card collector and a life long fan of the Boston Braves. He enjoyed summers at his home on Lake Waukewan in Meredith, NH.

He is survived by his children Robert McNeish of Fayston, VT., Elizabeth McNeish of Melbourne, Australia and Cynthia Draper of Charlton, MA.; Six grandchildren, Jake, Jessica, Ashley, Trevor, Dawit and Mawi. He is also survived by his brother David of Needham, MA and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass Ave, (Rte 111) Acton, MA on Thursday, September 4, 2008 from 5pm to 7pm, immediately followed by a funeral service at 7pm. Burial will be held on Friday September 5, 2008 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hill, NH. at 1pm.
