Edna Eager Obituary

Edna H. Eager

WORCESTER - Edna H. (Fleming) Eager, 92, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the Dodge Park Rest Home.

Edna was born on August 11, 1922, daughter of Nora G. (Curtin) and Joseph P. Fleming and lived in Worcester all of her life.

Edna graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1941 and also took classes at Quinsigamond Community College and Worcester State College.

She worked for the City of Worcester for many years, first at the Worcester Municipal Airport and then as a secretary for the Worcester Public Schools (Chandler Jr. High and Midland Elementary) for over 20 years.

Edna was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Eager, in 1990, and also predeceased by her siblings Joseph Fleming, Mary G. Johnson, John H. Fleming and Grace E. Reidy.

Edna is survived by her four children, Ann M. Lauring and her husband James, Robert F. Eager, all of Worcester, Jane C. Rogers of Auburn, and William F. Eager and his wife Miriam Disman of Chicago. She leaves her sister Hazel M. Fleming and her brother James E. Fleming, both of Worcester. Edna is also survived by her 10 grandchildren: Matthew, Daniel and his wife Caitlin, Peter, Christopher and Luke Lauring, Michael, Erin and Daniel Rogers, and Samuel and Eli Disman-Eager, and many nieces and nephews.

Edna was a member of Christ the King Church and St. John's Catholic Church, both in Worcester.

Edna was an avid reader and enjoyed swimming at the YWCA, walking, bowling and playing cards with her friends and grandchildren. She also loved traveling and going to the beaches of Hampton, NH, and Wells, ME.

Edna's family would like to thank Dr. Dennis Murphy and the staff of Grove Medical for 25 years of TLC, and Dr. David Weinstock and Carol Weinstock, NP, for their kind and compassionate care while she lived at Dodge Park. Thank you, also, to Notre Dame Hospice of Worcester for their response, commitment and caring of Edna. We would especially like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Dodge Park Rest Home for their wonderful care of Edna since October 2013, and for their special concern and care of her, and us, during her last days. We are truly appreciative.

Calling hours are Friday, June 5, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Food for the Poor Program, 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604 or to a charity close to your heart.
