Frances Wassenar Obituary

Frances Wassenar, 89

UXBRIDGE - Frances Wassenar, 89, of Uxbridge, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 16, surrounded by loved ones.

Fran was born on September 12, 1931, in Whitinsville, to the late George and Anna (Schotanus) Berghuis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Philip Wassenar, brother Albert Berghuis, and daughter-in-law Carol Wassenar. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Ken Wassenar of Plano, TX, Cindy and Dean DeVries of Allendale, MI, Dave and Diane Wassenar of Whitinsville, MA, Karen and Steve Stinson of Sutton, MA, ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Anna Stiers and Jennie Berghuis.

Fran was a lifelong member of Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church and had a deep and abiding faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Faith and family were the focus of her life. During their senior years, she and her husband Phil were able to travel extensively, and enjoyed many winters in Florida. After Phil died in 2015, Fran stayed close to home and enjoyed reading, puzzles, and crafting. She was an avid artisan and enjoyed creating beautifully decorated eggs, painted boxes, and Victorian-inspired Christmas decorations. Her daughter Karen would bring her a weekly supply of books from the Whitinsville library and Fran rarely left one unread. She was grateful that she was able to live independently, in her own home, right up until the end. She was out shopping for antiques with her dear sister, Jennie, several times this past month. Fran doted on her little dog, Buddy, and cherished visits from her church friends, her children, and her grandchildren. She was a wonderful listener, a good friend, and a gracious hostess to all who visited.

The family will hold a private memorial service and interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Whitinsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to either the Whitinsville Christian School, 279 Linwood Avenue, Whitinsville, MA 01588 or the Whitinsville Retirement Home, 10 Chestnut Street, Whitinsville, MA 01588.
