Gasper Olivieri Obituary

Gasper "Gus" Olivieri, 78, of Shrewsbury passed away Tuesday, June 17th 2008 in The UMass-Memorial Healthcare-University Campus surrounded by family.

Gus is survived by his cherished wife and partner of 46 years, Elena "Ellie" (Cecchi) Olivieri; his two devoted sons, Steven A. Olivieri and his wife Renee of Shrewsbury, David N. Olivieri and his wife Eva Dobarro of Orense, Spain; two brothers, Peter Olivieri of Worcester and Antonio Olivieri of Shrewsbury; three sisters, Concetta Gibbs of Florida, Marie Ingoglia of California and Marguerite Elliott in Arizona; four adored grandchildren, Antonio "A.J.", Elena, Angela and David; many nieces, nephews and friends. A brother, John Olivieri pre deceased him.

Gus was born in Worcester; his parents were the late, Nicola and Margaret (Bucciaglia) Olivieri. He graduated from Commerce High School, earned his degree in Civil Engineering from Wentworth Institute in Boston and has lived in Shrewsbury more than 35 years. Gus worked more than 42 years as a Civil Engineer for Morgan Construction Company before retiring. After retirement Gus worked as a starter for the Indian Meadow country club. Gus was a Korean War, U.S. Navy Veteran. He was an active member of St. Mary's Church, involved in many of its committee's and activities, the American Legion Post 234 in Northboro, the Worcester Lodge 168, Order Sons of Italy and it's Bocce League, The Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury, and the Greendale retired men's club. He enjoyed golf, travel, playing cards especially pitch and cribbage and his family. He was a devoted family man who spent as much time as he could with his wife, children and grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, June 21st from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Friday, June 20th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Members of the Adelphi Council Knights of Columbus will meet at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home to conduct their ritual. Members of the Worcester Lodge 168 will meet at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home to conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund, care of Worcester Lodge 168, Sons of Italy, P.O.Box 2371, Worcester, 01613 or St. Mary's Church, Building Fund, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury 01545.
