Gloria Aisenberg Obituary

Gloria Aisenberg

Worcester - Gloria (Hurowitz) Aisenberg died on Saturday, February 20, 2021, at the Jewish HealthCare Center.

She leaves three children: Dr. Mara Hammerman, wife of Rabbi Joshua Hammerman, of Stamford, CT; Dr. Andrew Aisenberg, partner of Paul Klein, of Pasadena, CA; and Steven Aisenberg, of Worcester; devoted grandchildren Ethan, Michael, Daniel, and Amy; many dear cousins; and her caring friend Adassa. She was predeceased, in 1988, by her husband Howard Aisenberg.

Gloria, daughter of the late Max and Edith (Friedberg) Hurowitz, was born in Worcester in 1931 and lived here her entire life. She attended May Street School, Seaver Street Preparatory School, and Classical High School. She was a member of the historic second graduating class of Brandeis University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Relations in 1953. She was the founding director of the Clark University Parents Cooperative Nursery School and subsequently served as director of the Temple Emanuel Nursery School. For many years she taught at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Worcester, the Worcester Community Hebrew High School, and Temple Sinai, where she was also a beloved Bar and Bat Mitzvah tutor.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Richard Perlman of the Miles Funeral Home in Holden. Burial and memorial week will be held privately. Contributions in Gloria's memory may be made to The Jewish HealthCare Center, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.

Mara, I don´t know if you remember me but I think we were at Flagg Street school together. I went to your house once or twice and I remember how nice your mother was and I´ve thought about her from time to time. Anyway I wanted to extend my sympathies and let you know your mom had an impact on me.

Gloria was a treasure, no matter how challenging, she found a way to support every student and make them rock stars on their special days.
She was loving but tough and deeply committed to our kids.

I remember Mrs.Aisenberg from my Nursery school days and through out my days at Temple Emanuel and Sinai. She was a wonderful part of many children´s lives. May you cherish her memories as we all do.
