WORCESTER - Irene C. Gemme, the eldest daughter of Henry W. Gemme, Sr. and Clara C. (Bolduc) Gemme, went to her eternal rest on March 5, 2015 at the age of 102 years.

She leaves four sisters, Lillian A. Boisvert, Anne M. Berthiaume, Lorraine T. Boucher, and Sr. Constance Gemme, Missionary Sister of Our Lady of Africa; two brothers, Henry W. Gemme, Jr. and his wife Claire, George J. Gemme and his wife Anna; two sisters-in-law, Yvette Gemme Brodeur and Anne Gemme, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by three brothers, Leon H., William H. and William P. Gemme; three sisters, Sr. Irena (Therese) Gemme and Marguerite Gemme, both Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa and Claire A. Sevigny. Irene attended St. Anne's Academy and graduated from Commerce High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College.

In her youth, Irene was a coloratura soprano and sang many arias in the Worcester Light Opera Company Productions, under the direction of Madam Commeau.

Irene entered the Carmelite Monastery in Rochester, N.Y., and later, joined the Dominican Sisters of the Mother of God in West Springfield. She then became a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic, a religious order for lay people.

Irene was also a typist for the Worcester Ware Pratt Company and retired many years ago as a secretary at Worcester City Hospital. Irene had many natural God-given talents. She was a fashion designer, a milliner, and enjoyed sewing, tatting, crocheting and photography, to name but a few.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Francis Home and the Hospice staff at Notre Dame Health Care Center for their tender loving care of our dear Irene.
