J. O'Connor Obituary

J. Timothy O'Connor III of East Falmouth, MA died on August 1, 2008, at Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA, after a brief illness.

Tim was the husband of Mercedes (Smith) O'Connor, to whom he was married for over 40 years. They were married at St. Eulalia's RC Church in Winchester, MA on August 26, 1967.

He was born in Worcester, MA on March 1, 1941 to John T. and Katherine (Cahill) O'Connor, Jr. After graduating from St. Peter's High School, he graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1962 and served as a United States Naval Officer for two years. In 1970, he graduated from the Columbia Business with an MBA.

He worked for many years in Manhattan in finance and lived with his family in Darien, CT for over 30 years.

He retired to East Falmouth, MA in 2004. He was an active runner for many years, running over 25 marathons all over the world, was also an avid gardener, and enthusiastic traveler, but his primary love was his wife and children.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, John T. O'Connor IV (Amy) of Swampscott, MA and Matthew S. (Stacy) O'Connor of Summit, NJ and a daughter Marisa M. (Daniel) Mulvihill of Jersey City, New Jersey and six grandchildren, Colin M., Madeline M. and Mary Katherine O'Connor of Summit, NJ, John T., V (Finn) and Cecelia H. O'Connor of Swampscott, MA and William P. (Liam) Mulvihill II of Jersey City, NJ. He also leaves a brother, David C. O'Connor of Harwich, MA and a sister, Maureen Baldwin of East Falmouth, MA.

There will be a Memorial Service at St. Anthony's RC Church in East Falmouth, MA at noon on Saturday, August 30, 2008. Donations may be made to College of the Holy Cross, c/o Tom Cadigan, Crusader Athletics Fund, One College Street, Worcester, MA 01610-2395 in memory of Tim O'Connor '62 for the Track/Cross Country Program.
