James Nasis Obituary

James "Jim" Nasis, 86, formerly of Fitchburg, died unexpectedly, while peacefully sleeping, Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center, Leominster.

He was the devoted husband of Louise V. (Spagnola) who predeceased him in December 1999.

Mr. Nasis was born in New Bedford, November 24, 1921, a son of Charles and Josephine (Stoney) Nasis and resided much of his life in this area.

For 38 years he worked as a machinist at the former Simonds Saw & Steel Company in Fitchburg, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Simonds Recreation Club.

During WWII Mr. Nasis served his country as a Technical Sergeant in the medical corp in the United States Army and was stationed in Normandy and France.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathleen L. Haven of Sterling, Nancy A. Rawlinson of Tewksbury, Deborah S. King of Westminster; a brother, Anthony Nasis of Fitchburg; a sister, Helen Nasis of California. He also leaves six grandchildren, John C. Haven, Jessica Gannett, Jason King, Erin King, Scott Haven and Amanda Fitzgerald and a great grandson, Ryan Gannett.

A long time resident of Fitchburg, MA, Jim enjoyed family cross-country vacations, visiting all parts of the U.S., especially California. Jim was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. Jim also had a great love of photography as evidenced by thousands of vacation photos he took throughout the years. Among his other accomplishments he was particularly proud of being the first in his family to own a car in the late 1930's.

Jim, his gentleness, and his great sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but fond memories will remain in the hearts of all.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, September 25th at the Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg. Please see www.isabellefuneral.com for additional information.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg.

Calling hours are 6-8 Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Homeless Veterans Shelter, 17 Court Street, 9th Floor, Boston, MA 02108 Attn: Michael Grace or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
