James O'Connor Obituary

James O'Connor, Jr., 62

SHREWSBURY - James J. O'Connor, Jr., 62, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.

James is survived by his wife of forty years, Wendy K. (Majcher) O'Connor; two sons, Patrick J. and Ryan T. O'Connor both of Shrewsbury; his parents, James J. and Grace M. (Strozina) O'Connor, Sr. of Worcester; three brothers, Donald and Paul O'Connor both of Worcester and Daniel O'Connor of Holden; two sisters, Kathleen O'Connor-West of Vermont and Margaret O'Connor of Worcester; two sisters-in-law, Robin Majcher of Oakham and Susan Sachs of Holden; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

James was born in Worcester and graduated from Holy Name High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. James worked as a sales supervisor and route driver for Nissen's Baking Company for over twenty-five years, retiring due to illness in 2004. He was a member of Saint John's Church and he was also an Eagle Scout. James was a huge Naval and World War II fanatic. He loved all movies, TV shows or documentaries that had any reference to the Navy; the military was his passion. He was also an avid sports fan.

Services for James will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will be held privately. A period of calling hours will be held on Monday, May 5 from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. It has been a very long time but I have such wonderful memories of growing up in Quinsig Village, of Quinsigamond School, Providence Jr High, St Catherine's, Fr Reilly, Mae's store, Ed's and so on and so on.
