James Kosta Prifti, 87

Worcester - James Kosta Prifti, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Worcester, the son of Kosta Dh. Prifti and Margarita K. (Dini) Prifti and had lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Holden 9 years ago.

He leaves his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy P. (Kiritsy) Prifti; his daughter, Sandra J. Barolli and her husband, Martin of Middlebury, CT; his son, Michael J. Prifti and his wife, Marina of Paxton; his six grandchildren, Amanda Prifti, Lucas Prifti, Alexandra Barolli, Rebecca Barolli, Danielle Prifti and Peter Prifti; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons, Peter J. Prifti and David J. Prifti and his brother, George K. Prifti.

Jim graduated from South High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army before completing his education and graduating from Worcester Poly Tech with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later earned a Master's degree, also in Mechanical Engineering, from Northeastern University. He was a supervisor for U.S. Army Natick Labs for 40 years before retiring in 1994.

Jim was an active member of St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, where he served on the board of directors as president and treasurer. He was awarded The Herald of St. Constantine and St. Helena Medal from the Albanian Orthodox Archdiocese in America for his service to the church. Jim was also a member of the Son's of Saint Mary and the Retired Men's Club of Greendale. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Morning Star Lodge & Scottish Rite for over 59 years. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed a great card game, bowling and golfing.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 6th, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester with burial following in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 5th at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A Trisagion service will be held there at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
