Jean Erickson Obituary

Jean E. Erickson, 87 (celebrated August 17, 2007), beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, peacefully passed away Monday, September 3, 2007, at The University Commons Nursing Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born on August 17, 1920, in Boylston, to Peter and Mary (Closson) Stewart, the youngest of seven. Jean was a life-long resident of Boylston. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1938, from Salter Secretarial School in 1940; she also attended Boston College. She had a distinguished and enjoyable career as the Tax Collector with the Town of Boylston from 1962-1985.

Jean cherished many friendships throughout her life. She was a faithful and devoted member of the First Congregational Church of Boylston, a member of the Boylston Lioness Club, the Massachusetts Tax Collector Association, and the Boylston Graduates' Association. Jean's greatest love in life was spending time with her family. Her fun-time activities included bowling, knitting, rug-hooking, needlepoint, card playing and reading.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Linda E. Erickson and her son, Charles G. Erickson, husband of Debbie A. (Greigg) Erickson, both of Boylston. She also leaves her five grandchildren: C. David Erickson of San Marcos, CA, Michael J. Letourneau of Worcester, Dana E. Erickson of San Diego, CA, Cheryl L. (Letourneau) Burgoyne of Fitchburg, Kevin C. Letourneau of Spencer, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 35 years, Charles R. Erickson, in 1983.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to all the 3rd Floor caregivers at the University Commons, the UMass Memorial Hospice Group and the Massachusetts Association For The Blind for all the extraordinary loving care they gave to Jean.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 7, 2007 - 11:00 at the First Congregational Church of Boylston, 10 Church Street, Boylston, MA. with her burial being at Pine Grove Cemetery in Boylston. Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester on Thursday, September 6, 2007, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to The Massachusetts Association for the Blind, 200 Ivy Street, Brookline, MA. 02446 in memory of Jean E. To all of you, I have so many memories of Jean/Gram. She was so good to all of us. Memories of the holidays, going to rug hooking with her on Fridays, knowing she was always there for David and Dana and just hours of talking with her about everything... My sympathy to all of you.

Linda, my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. She had been through so much these past four years, and you and your children were so wonderful to her. Be at peace knowing that she is now with those she loved on earth, and is reunited with you dear father. My love to you, my friend.
