John P. Brennan, 86

Clinton - John P. Brennan, 86, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Clinton Hospital after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of more than fifty years, Ida M. (Garofoli) Brennan, who died in 2008. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia McNamara; and Kathryn Irish and her husband James "Slim" Irish, all of Clinton; two sons, William T. Brennan and his wife Shelly of Gardner; and Sean P. Brennan and his wife Lisa of Merrimac. He leaves his 11 grandchildren, Katie, Thomas, Patrick & John Ryan McNamara, Megan & Molly Irish, Michael, Sean, Jaclyn, Julia & Emma Brennan; sister-in-law Mary Brennan of Clinton; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Jack was born in Boston to the late James & Ellen (Ford) Brennan. He was educated in Clinton and enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War. Corporal Brennan proudly served our nation in the 187th Airborne Division and was the recipient of a Bronze Star Award for meritorious service. He returned home safely and began his career with the former Wick-Wire Spencer Steel Company before joining the Worcester Carpenter's Union Local 107. Jack and his wife Ida later owned and operated the former Brennan's Restaurant & Pub in Clinton and he continued employment beyond retirement with the International Golf Club in Bolton and Stop & Shop Supermarket in Worcester. Jack held membership with the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Clinton VFW. Among his accomplishments, Jack was selected to proudly run with the 2002 Olympic Torch in Boston while representing the US Army 187th Airborne. He was a talented athlete who enjoyed skiing and swimming and a sports enthusiast with a passion for Notre Dame football. Jack took pride in his annual flower gardens and most cherished time spent in the company of his family and many friends. Jack was the best. I have thought of him every day since learning of his passing...and will continue to. I miss him. He told me the best stories when we connected at the Old Timer. He was a sweet person and is now a sweet loving angel. I love you Jack.
