John F. Hammond, 63
MEDWAY - John F. Hammond, 63, a resident of Medway, MA, and a former longtime resident of Fitchburg, died Monday, March 18, 2013 in his home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his daughter, Bridget K. Hammond of Medway and her mother Kate (Leahy) Hammond, of Franklin, MA; two brothers, his twin brother, James J. Hammond Jr. and his significant other, Annie Wiley and Jeffrey P. Hammond, and his wife, Michelle, all of Fitchburg; a sister, Judith P. Moodie and her husband, Robert J., of Littleton, MA; four nephews, Gregory J. Moodie, Ryan J. Hammond, William J. Hammond and Devin B. Hammond and two nieces, Carolyn A. and Christine E. Moodie; and many cousins and friends.
Mr. Hammond was a Freelance communication consultant and writer, and also worked for Grahall Consultants as a Consultant since 1998. Previously, he was a Communication Consultant from, 1996 to 2007, with Fidelity Investments. Prior to that, he was a Consultant with William M. Mercer, of Boston, and Watson Wyatt Company, in Wellesley Hill, MA.
He was the author of seven publications, and a well known speaker on Career Management Strategies and Communication. John received several awards for client solutions, communication and employee benefits. In addition, he taught for a total of six years at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, MA and Lehigh University.
He was a 1968 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg, a 1972 graduate of Boston College, receiving a Bachelor of Art Degree in English, and a 1973 graduate of Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, PA, receiving a Master of Art Degree. Further, John received a Ph.D. in English from Lehigh University in 1979.
He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg growing up, and a current communicant of St. Joseph's Parish in Medway. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, writing, photography, professional networking, guitar, international travel, sports and reading novels.
He was born in Fitchburg, on February 20, 1950, a son of the late James J. Hammond Sr. and Elizabeth A. (Desmond) Hammond. John grew up in Fitchburg, and moved to Medway in 1987.
Funeral Services will be celebrated on Friday, March 22, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bernard's Parish @ St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours, at the Funeral Home, are on Thursday, March 21, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 350 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01604 or can be left at the Funeral Home. For further information, see:
