Joseph Sampson Obituary
Vero Beach - Joseph Allen Sampson, 71, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully Thursday, December 28, 2017 at home with his loving family at his side after a five year battle with ALS.
Fondly known as Allen, he was born in Worcester and grew up in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts to the late Joseph P. and Delima (Dufour) Sampson. Allen and Linda, his devoted wife of 50 years, moved to Vero Beach five years ago from Lunenburg, MA.
He graduated from Shrewsbury High School (1964) and from Worcester
Industrial Technical Institute (1966) as a machinist.
Allen proudly served in the United States Air Force as an E4 Loadmaster making many trips to South East Asia in support of American troops during the Vietnam War.
Allen worked for over 30 years at Cains Foods in Ayer, MA, retiring as Plant Manager/Engineer in 2012. He represented Cains Foods and the Town of Ayer on numerous Town Boards and Committees over the years.
With a tremendous love for the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, water skiing, downhill skiing, and golfing. In his spare time from sports, Allen could be found riding his Harley Davidson Softail from the back roads of New England to the sunny highways of Florida. Family and friends enjoyed listening to him playing guitar and singing country music.
He leaves his wife Linda (Jewell) Sampson of Vero Beach; son Joseph W. Sampson and granddaughter Ella Sampson of Piedmont, SC; and son David A. Sampson of Gill, MA and grandchildren Sophia Sampson,
Josh Sampson and Emma Sampson of Belchertown, MA along with siblings Shirley and her husband John Shonle of Amherst, NH; David P. Sampson and fiancé Beth Griffin of Bourne MA; J.R. Courtman of Bourne, MA; John Sampson and his wife Karen Nordstrom of Charlton, MA; A. Wayne Sampson and his wife Catherine of Pocasset, MA; and Linda Sampson and her husband Mark Mowery of Kensington, MD, along with over 40 nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association.
A memorial service celebrating Allen's life will be held at 10:30 AM,
Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th Street

I had the pleasure of working with Joe for 18 years at Cains.
Joe was loved and respected by all of us. He did a great job and was a major part of our companies success. Everyone who knew Joe referred to him as a really good guy. Joe and I were the same age and married in the same month 50years ago. It was my good fortune to know and work with Joe and he well be missed.
