Joseph Stanavich Obituary

Joseph J. Stanavich, 90, of Worcester, died Wednesday December 3, 2008 in Beaumont Health Care, 378 Plantation St.

He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Anne M. (Pakenas) Stanavich; his devoted daughter and caregiver of seven years, Janet A. Stanavich of Worcester; and several nephews and nieces. Another daughter, Carolyn Griffin of Worcester died in 1984. He was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister, John and Frank Stanavich of Worcester and Victoria Dowrey of Lowell. He was born February 14, 1918 in Lowell, a son of John and Sophie (Politika) Stanavich. He was raised in Lowell and attended schools there. He has lived in Worcester for most of his life.

Mr. Stanavich was a wire drawer 30 years for U.S. Steel Co., North Works division and retired in 1970. After retiring he was a clerk 10 years for Paxton Liquors. He was a member of St. Stephen's Parish and a former member of St. Casimir Parish and St. Margaret Mary Parish. He was also a member of the Lithuanian Naturalization Club and the U.S. Steel Retiree's Social Club. He was a sports enthusiasts, bowler and loved to read. Joseph attended Saint Francis Adult Day Health which he enjoyed very much. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Beaumont for Joseph's care.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 6, from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m in St. Stephen Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday December 5 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen Restoration Fund, 16 Hamilton St, Worcester, Ma 01604.
