Judith Devoe Obituary

Judith A. (Tobia) Devoe

Auburn - Judith Ann (Tobia) Devoe of Auburn passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in Worcester.

Born in Southbridge, Judy was the daughter of the late Thomas Tobia and her surviving mother, Rose Tobia. She leaves her husband, Ronald L. Devoe of Auburn, and her daughter, Karen L. Devoe of Venice Beach, CA. To many longstanding friends, Judy's absence from their lives presents a tremendous loss.

Following high school, Judy graduated from Becker College with an Associate's degree as a Medical Assistant, working in this field for Dr. George E. McCabe and Dr. Ivan M. Spear. Judy was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross Disaster Services as well a CPR and First Aid Instructor, heading up the program at the Greendale Family YMCA for many years.

Judy was an active and devoted member of Park Congregational Church in Worcester, having sung in the church choir and served as Chair of the Diaconate for several years. As a loving and giving person, Judy was forever dedicated to service in any way for her church family.

As a semi-professional photographer, avid gardener and bird lover, Judy captured the beauty of God's creation in prize-winning photographs, reminiscent of the words, "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

A Memorial Service for Judy will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 11 AM in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester, with The Reverend Dr. Gary R. Shahinian, Pastor of Park Congregational Church, officiating. There are no calling hours.

Donations in memory of Judy may be made to NEADS, P.O. Box 1100, Princeton, MA 01541 or to Park Congregational Church, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA 01609. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester is directing arrangements. To leave a message in the online guestbook, please visit:

Dear Ron, Words cannot express my sympathy for you during this very difficult time. I'm glad Karen is home with you for now, and it was wonderful to meet the person you are so proud of. It is very moving to learn just how great of a person Judy was. It was, and will be, always clear just how much Judy means to you. With much respect and sympathy, you will remain in our thoughts and prayers for quite a while.

Dear Ron, Karen, and Aunt Rose, I was hoping on delivering my condolences in person, but today's snowstorm is keeping me at home. As I sit and watch the snow falling I will remember my cousin and the gentle, strong and kind presence that she carried with her....and her beautiful smile. My deepest sympathy, Love Jane

Dear Ron, Karen and Rose.
Judy was an amazing woman. She was a huge part of our church family. Always willing to lend a hand or an ear. She was a strong woman and friend to many. May you find comfort in the promise of being reunited in Heaven. She will be missed.

Dear Ron and Karen,
Please accept my sympathy and prayers for you and Judy. She was a wonderful person and will be sorely missed by those of us who treasured her as a longtime friend and prankster. I will remember always the great times we had here in Florida especially in Publix. We will all miss her greatly.

You are in a better place, Judy. Pray for us as we do for you and yours.
