Kevin Turner Obituary

Worcester Fire Fighter, Kevin M. Turner, 39 of Worcester passed away unexpectedly July 19, 2010 in his home after suffering a heart attack.

Kevin Mack Turner was born October 26, 1970 in St. Louis, Missouri to Jacqueline Marie Turner who preceded him in death in 2001. He was the oldest of three children (Alexander and Angela). The sudden death of his mother was very hard on Kevin, but she was very proud of them all. Kevin received his education in the St. Louis City Public School system. Immediately upon graduating high school he enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served two tours of duty during the Gulf War in both Dessert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.

Upon his discharge from the military, at which time he was stationed at Fort Devens, MA, Kevin decided to make Worcester his new home. It is here that on September 11, 2000 he was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a firefighter. February 1, 2004 he was transferred to Webster Square Station, Engine 5, where he remained. Kevin was very honored to become a member of the Worcester Fire Department where he made many new friends, associates, co-hearts, and adopted family members (his fellow firefighters). Kevin served proudly with the utmost respect, honor, dedication, and loyalty the citizens of Worcester not only as a firefighter, but also as a mentor and volunteer with the youth of his new community. Kevin received an award for his volunteer service from the YMCA for an outstanding job well done. He always wanted to have a positive effect on the lives of young people so that they could have a better future. He wanted to prove the fact that you are a product of what you make yourself, not a result of from which you came. Kevin lived his life to be an example just for that reason. He received many other accommodations, recognitions, and special awards both for his military service as a Special Forces Communication Officer, and as a Worcester Fire Department firefighter. Kevin was very proud of all his accomplishments, but he never ceased to improve himself. He was currently enrolled in the Quinsigamond Community College studying to obtain a degree in Fire Science, and simultaneously preparing to take the test to become a lieutenant in the Worcester Fire Department. Even though he had been acting lieutenant on many occasions and did an excellent job, Kevin always aimed for the stars. He was a true gentleman! Kevin was intelligent, trustworthy, honest, funny and downright silly at times with a slap-stick sense of humor that you couldn't help but love.

On February 21, 2008 in Las Vegas, NV, Kevin married his girlfriend of seven years, Kimberly Myles. He had already been a father to his two step-daughters Jalisha Myles and Fayth Myles for as many years. Kevin had no biological children, but there was never a child he met that he did not consider worthy to be his own.

On July 19, 2010 Kevin passed away creating a huge void in the lives of everyone he had ever met. He leaves to mourn his wife, Kimberly, one brother Alexander Turner and his wife Laverne, one sister Angela Turner, two step-daughters Jalisha Myles, Fayth Myles, a special niece Alexis Turner (which Kevin affectionately named "Da Niece"), a special aunt Ida Turner, a godson Avery Thomas, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and fellow firefighters.

Friends are invited to visit with the family Monday, July 26th from 3 p.m to 7 p.m in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A service will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be in his boyhood home town of St. Louis Missouri.

To all that need to know, if you knew Kevin Turner he was a devoted husband, stepfather and brother until he passed. He loved to help the underdog. If he saw a puppy or cat in need he would welcome that stray into his home and they know who they are. Thank you Kevin from a dear family member and friend who knows you well...

Kevin:
We worked a few shifts together; I would mention my aversion to "engine work" and you would smile. Yet you did your job well, and made my job easier; the true sign of a true brother. From the Chief of the department to your officer to your Engine 5 guys, you know that you have more than one family... to the WFD and the fire service, you will always be one of us.
Rest in peace, brother.

I did not know Kevin but felt the need to extend my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. After reading his obit, I feel we lost one special man and way too young. Not too many people in the world like Kevin and I hope the children he helped out will follow in his footsteps and achieve goals as Kevin did and would want for them. God bless you all... So sorry for your loss.

To Kim & Family,
I was so sorry to hear of Kevin's passing. Kevin was like a son to me and I considered him as such since he and my son were so close. I know that Kevin is safe in the arms of our heavenly Father. You, the girls and the rest of the family are in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless and keep you. Love Sue.

I did not personally know Kevin. I work with Michelle and know what a wonderful man Kevin was from looking at how happy he made Michelle. He treated her with the utmost respect. He was a true gentleman always sharing special times with her and sending her the most beautiful flower arrangements. He leaves a big void in her life.
May his spirit shine down upon you all and fill your hearts with his special love.
My deepest condolences.
Cathi
