Laura Metcalf Obituary

Laura A. (Wiren) Metcalf, 79, of 135 North Main St., formerly of Holden, died on Saturday, October 27, 2007 in Autumn Village, Worcester after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 55 years, Philip J. Metcalf, Sr.; a son, Philip "Skip" J. Metcalf, Jr. and his wife Marie of Leicester; a daughter, Sandra Jean MacAlister and her husband Dana of Hubbardston; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A son, Dale R. Metcalf died in 2000 and her sister, Linda Robinson, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester the daughter of Ludvig G. and Amanda (Bjorklund) Wiren and lived many years in Holden before moving to Templeton 24 years ago.

Mrs. Metcalf worked as a hairdresser in Worcester for several years. She was a member of Holden Chapel where she was active its bible study. She was an accomplished pianist, guitarist, and accordionist and enjoyed playing at local nursing homes. She sang with the Worcester Light Opera Company.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral service for Mrs. Metcalf will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir St., Holden. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701; or the Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir St., Holden, MA 01520.
