Barbara Nutcher Obituary

BARBARA MAY (GUY) NUTCHER
JAN 19, 1932 - JUL 7, 2012
Barbara was born on January 19, 1932, in London, England to James and Lydia Guy.  She passed away on July 7, 2012, in Atwater.
Barbara met her husband, Howard Nutcher, while working for an Army colonel in France.  Howard soon asked Barbara to marry him and come to America.  When Howard left to return to Hilmar after his tour, Barbara followed him, sailing on the Queen Mary. They were married in Hilmar on April 24, 1954.
Barbara was a legal secretary for many years. After retirement, she pursued her passion of baking and decorating wedding, birthday, and celebration cakes full-time. Her exquisite cakes were always in demand. Barbara loved to travel, play bridge, and attend auctions at Hewlett's in Le Grand with her dear friend Winnie Mitchell.
In the early 1970's, Barbara was active in her Legal Secretaries' Club and became their president in 1976. Barbara was also involved with the British Wives' Club.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Howard, as well as her parents.  She is survived by her daughters Debora Nutcher of Aptos and Ellen Nutcher of Carmichael, sister Jean Carpenter, of Maidstone England as well as her in laws, Phyllis and Bob Tornquist, Mary and John Wallace, Art and Stephanie Nutcher, Clark and Carol Kellogg of Merced, and many very special nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Stratford Evans Funeral Home on Friday, July 13th.  Friends are asked to join the family at the Reception Hall at Stratford Evans, 1490 B Street, Merced for lunch at 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Howard A. Nutcher Scholarship Fund, Merced College 3600 M St., Merced, CA 95340 or Hinds Hospice of Merced, PO Box 736, Merced, CA 95340.
