Manuel Otto Alvarez

Worcester - Manuel Otto Alvarez, 85, of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in his home surrounded by his beloved family.

Otto is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Maria D. Alvarez Escalada; their daughter, Maria M. Alvarez Kudron and her husband Philip J. Kudron of Worcester; a granddaughter and grandson, Taylor Kudron and Jeffrey Kudron; three sisters, Mirta Quintana of Georgia, Mary Bosmenier of Nevada, and Aida Rodriguez of Worcester; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Percy Alvarez. Otto was born in Cuba, son of Spanish immigrants, Colonel Manuel Alvarez Margolles and his beloved wife Margarita Muñoz Bandera.

Otto grew up in Cuba, and after his father was executed in the name of communism, he, his wife and daughter fled to the United States in 1967. Here in Worcester, they settled and began living the American Dream of owning a home and raising a family. Otto worked for twenty-four years as a machine operator for Belden Manufacturing, formerly Phalo Plastics, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Parish, and had been very active in the Spanish Community at Saint Paul's Cathedral. He was a very caring man, who shared what he had with those less fortunate. He was devoted to his family and was a man of great integrity and caring.

Calling Hours will be held on Monday, November 24, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester (please enter by the side door). Interment will be held privately in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester.
