Mary C. Rej

Mary C. (Curis) Rej, 92, of Cottage Lane, died on Sunday, August 31, 2008, in Radius Healthcare Center, Worcester.

Her husband of 17 years, Francis P. Rej, died in 1959. She leaves 2 daughters: Frances Southard and her husband, Paul A. Southard, of Auburn, and Barbara Goyette and her husband, Aime Goyette, of Whitinsville; 2 grandchildren: David F. Goyette of Northbridge, and Michelle Vater of Bellingham; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Curis, M.D., of West Hartford, CT; and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by 4 brothers: John, Joseph, Theodore, and Walter Curis. She was born in Woonsocket, RI, on November 10, 1915, daughter of the late Stanley and Sophia (Fronzek) Curis, and was raised in North Smithfield, RI; she moved to Northbridge in 1946.

Mrs. Rej worked as a spinner and a winder for over 35 years at various textile mills in Rhode Island and Massachusetts including the Paul Whitin Mfg. Co., Northbridge, J.J. O'Donnell Co., South Grafton, and Waucantuck Textile Mill, Uxbridge; she retired in 1980. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish and was a skilled embroiderer.

Her funeral will be Thursday, September 4, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 80 School St., with a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 39 Church Ave. She will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in St. Patrick Cemetery, Whitinsville. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, September 3, from 5 to 7 PM.
