MaryJo Roughan Obituary

MaryJo Roughan, 66

Worcester - MaryJo Roughan, age 66, journeyed to Heaven on June 13, 2021 while in the peaceful surroundings of her home.

Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Mary W. (Kilcoyne) Roughan. She leaves her beloved family, her brothers Thomas J. Roughan of Worcester and Michael P. Roughan and his wife Katherine of Hopkinton, her sister Diane R. Wear and her husband Robert of Needham as well as several nieces and nephews, Emily Barbieri and her husband Joe, Besty Roughan, James Roughan, Will Roughan, Chris Wear and his wife Leah and Justin Wear and his wife Kelly. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Mary A. Lebejko-Roughan. MaryJo graduated from Marian High School in Worcester and upon graduation began her career in 1972 at the former State Mutual Life Assurance Co which later became Allmerica Financial / Hanover where she retired in 2008 as a Senior Business Analyst. During her decades there she was loved and respected by all. Her fun loving, quirky, generous personality spilled over into everything she did. It was there that she met her lifelong friends Shirley Vacca-Pavone and Carol Godek. They were the 3 Musketeers. MaryJo became the "middle sister" in their lives. For MaryJo, it wasn't just a place to go to work, it was a place she went to share her life. If you were lucky enough to be in her inner circle, you had a friend for life. Your friends became her friends, your family became her family, the circle continually growing. As with any family, she laughed with you, cried with you, and grieved with you and most of all she loved you as family. Family and friends were her most treasured possessions. MaryJo was a loving, generous daughter, sister, sister-in law, aunt, great-aunt, godparent, neighbor, and treasured friend. Her greatest joys were spending time with her loving family and friends. She loved to travel, attend events at Hanover Theater, visit casinos and spend time at the Cape with her lifelong friend and companion Mike Vacca. MaryJo would do anything for anyone and will be missed by all. Our tears are fresh our hearts are broken, we will love her and treasure her memory until we meet again.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with MaryJo's family from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, June 20, at Kelly Funeral Home, 154 Lincoln Street, Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 on Monday, June 21, at St. George Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will be at a later date at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Food for the Poor Program, 20 Temple St., Worcester, MA 01604

Our hearts are broken with the loss of our dear friend Maryjo, but her fun loving, free spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
She was the most generous person I have known.
For my 60th birthday she gave me a scratch ticket that was already scratched and I thought it was some kind of joke! But the ticket was a $300.00 winner and she was giving it to me as my birthday present!!!!
She never thought of herself, she just shared the wealth!
Also when I was going in for breast surgery, she was at my house at 5AM to wish me luck and of course bring me scratch tickets!!!! That's the kind of person she was!
Maryjoey, we will miss all our adventures together and all the things we had planned but you will always be with us in spirit .
Please look down on us occasionally and watch over and protect us!
You will be in our hearts forever my friend!

So shocked and sorry to hear of MJ's passing. Worked with her for many years, and we still got together at least once a year with our DI group to catch up. Always lots of laughs, and she had the best stories to share. She will be missed.
