Mr. Silver left so many impressionable and fond memories for me and my classmates at Mill Swan School - I'm so sorry for your loss.

February 24, 2009

I met Mr. Silver while attending Mill Swan Elementary. Looking back, it seemed like he was in charge of everything that made learning fun and exciting there. As far as I know, The Discovery Room (a place for kids to go to see some animals, play with microscopes, and do other kinds of hands-on science) was his project. He was in charge of the popular biannual field trip to Cape Cod. And he set up, organized, and pitched for the Popsicle League (a lunch time whiffle ball league) including posting results and coming up with nicknames for every participant.

The time and energy that Mr. Silver put into projects like these have had a huge impact on me and my learning.

Thank you, Mr. Silver.

My condolences to those closest to him. He is missed.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I have wonderful memories of your Dad coaching us at Midland St School in the late seventies. To this day we talk about his Midland teams and how much fun we had. He'll be remembered fondly and often.

On belhalf of my family, I would like to extend my condolences to the Silver family. Mr. Silver was a exceptional educator and an even better person. My brothers and I were students of his at Abbott Street School and were lucky to have him as our teacher. We were taught many great lessons by Mr. Silver that I think have carried us through our lives. He touched the lives of so many and he will be truly missed.

When I saw the obituary, I immediately contacted my son in Wisconsin and my daughter in Oregon; both of whom were students of Mike's at Mill Swan. He influenced both of them and fostered their love of learning. I have always been grateful for the environment there, and Mr. Silver was a driving force behind it. I'm sorry for your loss, and hope that you have a sense of how many of us feel lucky that he was part of our children's lives.

Your dad is remembered to me as always providing constant encouragement, a positive attitude, a kind heart and a smile on his face. May he rest in peace.

I was a student of Mr. Silver's at Mill Swan Elementary School. Both my brother and I were in his class for advanced students and both of us are now proudly persuing our PhDs. We are eternally grateful for his encouragement and the shape he gave to our lives. Without a doubt I am just one of the countless lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.

My sincerest sympathy to both of you on the loss of your father. Mike worked at Vernon Hill School and made such a tremendous difference in the lives of our children. He will always be remembered as a wonderful teacher, outstanding person, and a friend who will never be forgotten. Mike was such a special guy to our entire staff but especially to me as he shared so unselfishly his time, energy, and love of teaching with the children of Vernon Hill School.

Hugs and peace,
Elizabeth Zemaitis

Mr. Silver was my 5th grade teacher at the McGrath School in Worcester in 1984. There was not another teacher who shaped my education more. His infectious love of History is the reason why I know all those trivia questions and why my children also love history too!
He made learning fun, he allowed his students to have a say in his classroom and I never met another teacher like him.
Thank you, Mr. Silver for all the time and care you gave to me.

God bless you, Mike. You were my sister Clare's guardian angel. I could never hope to thank you for all that you did for her in the good times- but, especially, in the difficult times.

When I think back on those days long gone by at Wawecus Rd School its tough not to think about Mr Silver. He was my hands down favorite teacher !
He was a grown up that had a profound impact on how I grew up yet probably was never aware of it.
Gosh the games we played in our 5th grade class were all designed to make learning fun.
In his classroom I recollect listening to the Red Sox Cardinals World Series of 67 !
Do you all recollect the indoor whiffle ball games we played... gee such simple fun ...those were the days !
