Michelle Mahaney Obituary
She leaves her husband of 38 years, Joseph Mahaney; her son, Justin Mahaney and his wife Stephanie of Brimfield and her treasured Grandson, Aaron Mahaney. She also leaves her mother, Rita Jewell of Southbridge; one sister, Sheron McKinstry of Southbridge; five brothers, Mark Jewell of Southbridge, Lance Jewell of Hartford, Scott Jewell of Arizona, Keith Jewell of Southbridge and Craig Jewell of Dudley and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Michelle was born in Southbridge, the daughter of Ernie and Rita (Miller) Jewell. She graduated from Southbridge High School, Salter Secretarial School and Bellevue Community College in Bellevue, Washington. Michelle worked many years as a librarian at the Jacob Edwards Library in Southbridge and the Burgess Elementary School in Sturbridge. She was an early member of the National Organization for Women travelling to Washington DC in support of women's' issues and was very excited and proud to attend the 1992 Democratic National Convention with the Massachusetts delegation. Her passions were family, fashion, gardening, antiques and decorating her home. Michelle also loved spending time with her many dear friends around town and in Florida. She will be sorely missed by all.
A celebration of Michelle's life will be held at the Cohasse Country Club Restaurant, 393 Eastford Road, Southbridge on Monday, August 15th from 6pm to 10pm. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, attn: Donor Services/Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, West 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. It is a terrible thing when cancer afflicts an adult, but it's tragic when it strikes a child.

My memories of Michelle were all good, and thats what i will always remember. I didnt know her as well as others,but she embrased me like one of Justins childhood friends, even though we had only known each other since college. Her personality was so fun loving,grounding and free spirited. I wish i could attend monday to particapate in the celebration of her life. She lived life, and evryone i knew around her are great people, and that says alot. She will be missed, and i trust evryone will celebrate her life monday as she would have wanted. Joe, don't know if you remember this, but we met you last year on Block Island @ Mark's beach cookout. So sorry to hear of Michelle's passing. Ironically, not realizing that she had been so sick, we are on Block now and thought we might bump into you again. So sorry that's not the case and that you are experiencing this tragedy. Our condolences to you, your son, and the Jewell family.
