Millicent Scott Obituary

Millicent Paterson Scott

South Hadley - Millicent Paterson Scott, a clinical social worker, died July 17, 2017, at Loomis House, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John F. Scott, PhD., a well-known Worcester, MA-area psychologist. She will be deeply missed by her daughters Linda D. Scott PhD of Northampton, MA and Angela Scott JD of Avon, CT, her daughter-in-law Rebecca Sherer, and her beloved granddaughter Carly Henderson of Baltimore, MD.

Millicent was born and raised in New York City, she married and moved to Boston for one year, and then moved to Worcester, where she resided until the death of her husband. She moved into Loomis Village in South Hadley for her remaining years, where she enjoyed swimming, playing bridge, and having ice cream each night with her friends.

Millicent earned a Bachelors degree in Social Work from New York University, and was inducted into the Honorary Social Work Society after graduation. She then earned a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston University. She interned at Sydenham Hospital while in New York, at Memorial Hospital, and at Family Service Organization in Worcester. After graduation, she worked at Family Service Organization, Catholic Charities, and the Worcester School Department as a School Adjustment Counselor.

She served on the Boards of the YWCA, Nazareth Home for Boys, and the Age Center of Worcester.

At various times, she has been active at the Cavendish Bridge Club, and WISE at Assumption College. She enjoyed reading, knitting, bridge, crossword puzzles, and traveling. She and her family spent much of their time together taking fantastic trips and creating priceless memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Children's Friend, directed to the School Age Mothers program in Worcester, MA, and the Student Care & Emergency Response Fund at UMASS.

There will be a small memorial service at a later date and Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements. For online guestbook, please visit

She was a wonderful woman! Every time I came to see Linda, she made me feel at home. Sorry for your loss.

To the family of Millie Scott,

It was my pleasure to know Millie! A kind, gentle, intelligent, and somewhat humorous lady.I enjoyed our talks on Patriots football, and Downton Abbey On Mondays while water walking at the YMCA. We used to joke that were sisters born from different mothers, thirteen years apart(our birthdays were on the same day) These are just a few memories I have of your wonderful mother. My prayers and thoughts are with you in you time of sorrow.
