Patrick Oroszko Obituary

Patrick C. Oroszko, 34

WORCESTER - Patrick C. Oroszko, 34, of Worcester, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side, on Sunday, June 5 at Brigham and Women's Hospital following a brave and inspirational battle with esophageal cancer.

Patrick was born in Worcester and graduated from St. John's High School where he excelled in basketball. He received his Bachelor's degree from Clark University and his Master's degree from Anna Maria College.

While a student at Clark he was a member of the school's basketball team which qualified for the postseason in all four of his years and made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division III tournament in 2001 and 2002. He served as a team captain his junior and senior years. Most importantly, while at Clark, he met his wife, Courtney.

Patrick was Director of Student Recruitment for Clark's Graduate School. In that capacity he traveled domestically as well as to countries in Europe, Asia and South America. In addition, Patrick has served for seven years as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Clark.

Patrick was an outgoing and fun-loving spirit. He earned the loyalty of many friends who were a source of support during these trying times. He enjoyed attending sporting events and concerts, as well as playing golf, was an avid NE Patriots fan, and enjoyed watching World Wrestling Entertainment. His favorite pastime was being with his family.

Patrick is survived by his wife of 5 years, Courtney R. (Price) Oroszko, his children Allison and Ryan, all of Worcester; his parents, Charles J. and Linda (Cesary) Oroszko; his brother, Christopher, all of Boylston; father-in-law, Martin Price of Kansas; brother-in-law, Benjamin Price of Brooklyn; sister-in-law, Elisia Price of Missouri, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother-in-law, Eileen (Kelly) Price.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 9 from 4-8 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, June 10 at 11:00 am at the Kneller Athletic Center at Clark University, 57 Downing Street, Worcester. Those who attend the service are encouraged to wear red and white, the Clark team colors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Center for Esophageal and Gastric Cancer, c/o Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215. My memory of Pat from high school was that he was a guy others wanted to be like. He was as cool as the other side of the pillow. I am sure that never changed. And he had a dry wit that I will never forget. His legacy will live on through the people who were lucky enough to know him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I worked on the 2004 McGovern campaign with Pat. Like so many others, I couldn't help but be in good mood when he was around. For years afterwards memories of Pat would pop up in my head at random times, and I'd smile or even start to laugh -- I'm sure a lot of strangers on the subway or the bus thought I was crazy guy laughing to myself, but if they had known Pat, they would have been laughing and smiling, too.

Oroszko and Price families, I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts.
