Paul Serafin Obituary

Paul J. Serafin, 75
Worcester - Paul J. Serafin 75, of Worcester, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on January 17, 2013 in UMass Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elaine A. (Barry) Serafin. He also leaves 4 children, Donna Gingras and her husband Michael, Paul Serafin and his wife Ellen (Puishys), Thomas Serafin, Daniel Serafin and his wife Claudette (Goodreau); a daughter-in-law, Faye (Gaunt) Serafin; eight grandchildren, Zachary Serafin, D.J. Serafin, Jacob Serafin, Alex Serafin, Samuel Serafin, Tyler Serafin, Courtney Gingras, and Erin Serafin as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Robert Serafin. Paul was born in Worcester, the son of Joseph and Hedwig (Knotowtt) Serafin.
After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Serafin became a police officer for the City of Worcester. He served the city proudly for 34 years before retiring in 2002. He was also a union steward for IBPO Local 378 and was the first recipient of their Policeman of the Year Award which he received in 1998. Paul enjoyed his retirement spending time with his grandchildren and vacationing in Aruba with his wife and extended family members and friends.
The funeral will be held Monday, January 21, 2013 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Church, 40 Temple Street. Interment service will be in Notre Dame Chapel Mausoleum. Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, January 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to; Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. My condolences to the Serafin family, besides being the first recipient of the Policeman of the Year Award while we where in the Police Academy back in April 1968 he made the first arrest while still in the academy, there was a lot of talk that day. Goes to show you if something had to be done Paul never hesitated.
