I would only be looking through my eyes if I wrote something blue about my father. The people who knew him know “that wouldn’t be Pete!”
Dad was a tame sort of rebel, a hard worker who desperately tried to walk in the wake of John Wayne (his greatest hero). He was a proud homeowner who, as his neighbors know, kept an extremely manicured lawn. I can hear the echo so oftentimes yelled from the front porch, “You kids, in the back! You have the whole back yard and the woods to play in. GET OFF THE FRONT LAWN!”
My two children, his grandchildren, have many terrifically funny stories that will forever ease their recent pain. No matter what time, the kids were always welcome.
Dad was my greatest fan and no matter where I played, he would show up a ½ hour early; just so he could tell us “how it's done.”
I am going to miss him greatly. I’ll miss his dance moves in the kitchen, his quick karate chops in the living room, and just sitting down over a cup of coffee.
“…Eyes wide open, always hoping for the sun,
And she'll sing her song to anyone that comes along.”
