Raymond O'Malley Obituary

Raymond J. O'Malley

Clinton - Raymond J. O'Malley, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Oakdale Rehabilitation Center in West Boylston following a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Lyons) O'Malley, who passed away in June. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Mary Ann Shaughnessy & Michael; Michael O'Malley & Patricia; and Raymond O'Malley & Joan, all of Clinton; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Lena O'Malley of Holden, Eileen Higgins of Quincy, and Anne Sullivan of Jamaica Plain; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ray was born in Clinton to the late Anthony & Mary (Kane) O'Malley. He graduated from the Clinton High School and enlisted to proudly serve our nation in the United States Navy during WWII. Ray was assigned to the USS Nelson and later to the USS Atlanta, from where he notably received recognition for meritorious service in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He returned home safely, completed studies to become an electrician, and remained passionate for his trade throughout his lifetime. In addition to working for himself, Ray was employed as an electrician for ITT Surprenant and later UMass Medical Center before ultimately retiring. He held life membership with the former Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Clinton and enjoyed golfing in his spare time. As were many of his generation, he was a humble, hard-working, dedicated family man. He and his wife Betty set a wonderful example for their future generations and were most proud of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 9:30 until 11AM in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton.
