Richard Hudson Obituary

Richard "Red" Hudson, 84, passed December 15, 2010 from complications of Lou Gehrigs Disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Anita F. (Small), three children, Richard W. Jr. and his wife Anne of Oxford, Thomas H. and his wife Marsha of Grafton, Sandra E. Arning and her husband Charles of Lunenburg; one sister, Dorothy Loader of CA, six grandchildren, Michael, Emily, Scott, Molly, Lauren, Carrie; four great grandchildren, Charles, Cole, Chase, Owen, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Phoebe (Crepeau) Hudson, two sisters, Florence Chausse, Doris Remillard and three brothers, Harry, Kenneth and Francis. He was born December 5, 1926 in South Grafton and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Hudson attended Grafton High School and then enlisted in The US Navy in 1944. He was a Seaman 1st Class serving with The Seabees as a heavy equipment operator building the airstrips on Okinawa. Red worked at Fiske Apple Farm in Grafton, Whitin Machine Works and then for Norton Co., now St. Gobain in Worcester at Plant 8 Small Wheel Division retiring as a supervisor in 1988. He was a parishioner of St. James Church in South Grafton, a member of The Grafton Bowling and Golf leagues, VFW Post 1497 South Grafton, The Senior Citizens of Grafton and The Friends of Grafton Elders. Red also served his community as a firefighter with The Grafton Fire Department Hose Co. 4 for 25 years retiring in 1973. The family suggests memorial donations in lieu of flowers to Grafton Food Bank, PO Box 324 Grafton MA 01519 or MDA/ALS, 33 Lyman St. Suite 304, Westborough MA 01581 to aid in research of Lou Gehrigs Disease.

FUNERAL & CALLING HOURS

Calling hours at THE RONEY FUNERAL HOME SOUTH GRAFTON CHAPEL, 124 Main St., South Grafton are Friday, December 17th from 4 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 18th at 10 am in St. James Catholic Church, 89 Main St. South Grafton. (All attending Saturday are respectfully asked to go directly to the church). He will then be laid to rest with Navy Honors in Fairview Cemetery South Grafton. A Condolence Book may be signed and directions are available at:

Anita, Dick, Tom, Sandy...I am so sorry for your loss. It's never easy, but I know you have wonderful memories. He was a fine man! Part of that old South Grafton group of families - what wonderful childhood memories we all have.

During the past 40+ years I have known Mr. Hudson, I have always been greeted with a warm sincere smile that is forever etched into my memory. He always made our high school gang feel welcomed to his home for the great parties and volley ball games.
