Richard A. Kanaley, Sr., 81

Newburyport, MA - Richard A. Kanaley, Sr., age 81, of Newburyport, former longtime resident of Worcester, passed peacefully at his home on Friday, July 23, 2021 in the loving presence of his family. He was the dedicated husband of 57 years to Alice (Minassian) Kanaley.

Born in Worcester, June 14, 1940, he was one of three children of the late James and Beatrice (Convery) Kanaley and was a graduate of Commerce High School, Worcester.

A proud veteran of the Vietnam Era, Richard served with the United States Army from January 24, 1962 until his honorable discharge on January 23, 1964, then continued to serve an additional four years with the Army Reserves.

He retired as a bus driver, having had a lifelong career with the Worcester Regional Transit Authority.

Richard will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Alice; his son, Richard A. Kanaley, Jr. and wife Cindy of Ogunquit, Maine; his daughter, Lisa Andrews and husband Jeff of Newburyport; his wonderful grandchildren, Anthony Kanaley, Angela Sullivan, Alex Andrews and Abbi Andrews; along with nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his two sisters, Ann Hebert and Carol Besaw.

The family sends a most heartfelt "Thank You" for the help, kindness and compassion they received throughout Richard's illness, from the volunteers at the Bedford V.A. Hospital, the staff of the Visiting Angels of Newburyport, the nurses of Merrimack Valley Hospice, as well as the nurses at Anna Jaques Hospital.

At his request, there will be no services. Kindly consider making a donation in honor of Richard A. Kanaley to Voluntary Services (135), C/O Bedford V.A. My deepest sympathy. Thoughts and prayers to the entire Kanaley family.
The man who could keep us in line as good as our own dad's growing up. Character that made our neighborhood great. Thanks Mr K.
