Rita Cote Obituary

Rita M. Cote, 90

Worcester - Rita M. (LeFrancois) Cote, 90, a resident of Beaumont Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at UMass Hospital in Worcester from complications of the Corona Virus/COVID-19. Her loving husband, Edward L. Cote, Jr., pre-deceased her in June 2019.

Rita is survived by a son, Thomas Cote and his wife Kerry of Worcester; two daughters, Joann French and her husband David of Rutland, and Jacqueline Cote and her wife Kerry of Tennessee; two sisters, Lucille Boucher and Janet Bacon, both of Worcester; five grandchildren, Michael French, Steven French and his wife Ashley, Aimee Cote-Vera and her husband Andres, James Cote and his wife Rosa, and Staff Sergeant Christopher Cote and his wife Bianca; three great grandchildren, Aurora Cote, Nicolai Vera and Aubrey French; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jean Chabot and by a brother, Robert LeFrancois. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late, Alpherie and Bertha (Gallant) LeFrancois, and has lived here all her life.

Rita was devoted to her family and strove daily to make their home comfortable and full of love. She had been a member of the former Saint Charles Borromeo Parish and was currently a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Worcester. She was an active member of her church, always willing to help in any way. She enjoyed travelling throughout the Northeast with her husband as they "chased" light houses and the beautiful coastline of New England.

Due to current restrictions on gathering, funeral services will be held privately. She will be interred beside her husband in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. The family has entrusted care to the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Massachusetts Nurses Association, at 340 Turnpike Street, Canton, MA 02021, to help defray the cost of purchasing PPE for front-line nurses and medical personnel; you can also donate online by visiting www.massnurses.org.

Joann and Lu, I recently heard of Rita's passing and am deeply saddened! She displayed such a tough exterior, but I got to know that softer side during so many of our chats together!! I will always remember her words to me at the elevator every day when I left work: "Be careful out there. There are a lot of nuts on the road. Don't forget what I told you..." and I would smile & blow her a kiss. You are all in my thoughts & prayers. Rest in peace, my dear friend Rita.

My Deepest Sympathy to Rita's family. I was so sad to read of Rita's passing due to Covid-19. Rita always seemed so healthy and vibrant , what a shame that this horrible virus took her life. My Dad Fred was a resident on the second floor with Rita for almost two years until his passing in Nov. 2019. Rita called him Romeo and we would always laugh at that! I would see Rita sitting by the elevator each time I visited and she would have the T& G in her hand and we would talk about the days news . She was a funny, friendly woman!
I am also sorry to read of your father's passing in June, but hope it brings you all comfort to know they are together in heaven

My deepest sympathy to Rita's family. I vividly remember Rita from Beaumont during my last visit to the second floor in February 2019. My Mom, Janet passed and I recall countless conversations with Rita as she sat with me in the hallway on many occasions. Her sharp wit always made me smile. So pleased that my path crossed with hers ever so briefly. Strength and comfort to the family in the days ahead.

My deepest condolences to Rita's family. I saw Rita everyday when I visited my mom at Beaumont. I came to call her Auntie Rita, as she got a kick out of it. We used to exchange hugs every time I arrived and left.
She was so much fun to talk to and be around. She watched out
For my mom and took great care of her. For that I am eternally grateful. To say I am saddened is an understatement. I feel like I lost a member of my family.
The second floor will never be the same.
God be with Auntie Rita, May she shine in your warming light for eternity. Please bestow strength and comfort to
Her family.

Joann and family!
I am so very sorry for your loss. These times are so uncertain, and this was a shock for me when I found out. Your mom cared deeply. Even when things got challenging, we always saw the soft side as well. I am going to miss her! :( The 2nd floor will never be the same. Please take of yourselves!
