Robert Beckwith Obituary

Robert W. Beckwith, Sr.

Sutton - Robert "BOB" W. Beckwith Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on Monday July 19th, 2021 at home surrounded by his beloved family.

Bob was born in Worcester and the son of Ivan and Alice (Graveline) Beckwith and is also predeceased by two brothers, Harry and Arthur. Survived by his wife Nancy (Ray) and his six children Carolyn and her husband Joseph McCooey, Robert Jr. and wife Donna, Michael and wife Donna, Phillip and wife Sharon, Laura and husband Dennis Mercure, David and wife Kristen, nine grandchildren Whitney, Kristen, Rachel, John, Jennifer, Lauren, Nathaniel, Nolan, and Cameron and three great grandchildren Kaia, Mila and Ezra. He also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.

Bob attended Boys Trade School in Worcester. After leaving school at the age of 16, Bob began a long career in the trucking industry. While he always retained a passion for driving he transitioned into management rolls at various trucking companies, before founding Apollo Motor Express in Shrewsbury Ma, a company he owned and operated for 36 years. Bob was a man of strong Catholic Faith and was a fourth degree knight at the Grafton chapter of the Knights of Columbus.

Bob was an active member, and along with his wife Nancy was one of many families that founded St. Mark's church, where he ran bingo, worked the whist parties and the ham and bean suppers, all of which brought the parish families together. Bob was a man with an infectious smile and quick wit. He was an avid golfer and member of Pleasant Valley Country Club for 30 years, he enjoyed summer trips to Saratoga NY to watch the horse races, and fishing trips to Matunuck RI and made many wonderful friends throughout the years in St Augustine FL where he and Nancy spent winters. Greatest of all, however, he enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he always described as his greatest accomplishment.

All are welcome to celebrate and remember Bob's life by gathering for his Funeral Mass on Friday, July 23rd at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590. Burial will follow at Howard Cemetery in Sutton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Church.
