In 1998 I started working with Bobby in the Metrowest tunnel project,.Every day for countless hours , Bobby and I would work in a 40 inch space between the head of hard rock mining machine and rock we were boring into , changing cutters ,swinging hammers , most times in 100 plus degree environment. To this day it is still the hardest work I was ever exposed to but most importantly I have never worked with someone more capable of getting it done than Bobby Cheschi. He was a hard worker, very smart, and a great sense of humor. He was responsible for some of the funniest moments ever in my work life. I am thankful that I kept in touch with Bobby through the years after the tunnel project. About a year ago we talked and laughed so hard over the phone about a couple of award winning prankster moments back then. We had a great bond down there, extremely dangerous conditions where any day could be your last but Bobby made it fun. I was saddened by the news of his passing, but all of my memories with him were good and he will always be my friend. God Bless.

I worked with Bobby on the MWRA water tunnel from Saxonville to Weston back in the late "90's to "2000" Bobby was Local #609 out of Framingham and he was on a tunnel boring machine with Local #4 (2 operators,1 heading mechanic), Local #88 (Miners 4), Local #103 (electricians 2), and Local #609 (BOBBY) so he had some pull to be on the machine. He was a very hard worker and didn't shy away from the tough stuff. Bobby was a great guy, he wasn't afraid to give his opinion.
I remember talking to him about needing a riding mower and he said he just bought a new one and still had his old one, and I could have it under one condition, "yeah what's that " ? If it breaks or blows up I'm not taking it back, and I don't want to hear about it. "Ok, Thanks". I saw this obit today and was saddened hearing about Bobby, he was a smart guy, he had a lot of common sense. He had some dirt bike stories and we had a common friend (Mark Kelley). To Bobbys family, hoping this brings some comfort knowing Bobbys spirit touched others in nothing but a positive way. The crew on the tunnel machine friends or not, were all about 400' deep, and ended up 6 plus miles in, wet all the time, enclosed space, bad dangerous conditions we had some sort of a bond I'll never forget, and my memory of Bobby is a very good one.
