Robert A. MacNutt

Holden - Robert A. MacNutt, 83, died while vacationing with his wife, Elaine and their friends in Largo, Florida on February 26, following open heart surgery. Bob and Elaine celebrated 60 years of marriage in October 2015.

In addition to his wife, Elaine (Johnson) MacNutt, he leaves his two children, Diane R. Landers and her husband, Philip of Wellesley and Jeffrey R. MacNutt of Albuquerque, NM; his five grandchildren, Michaela (MacNutt) Negus and her husband, Kenneth of Albuquerque, Joshua MacNutt of Kingston, New York, Evelyn, Patricia and William Landers of Wellesley; and one great-grandchild, Jameson MacNutt. His parents, Homer E., and Evelyn (Armstrong) MacNutt, one brother, Homer E. Jr., and one sister, Norma (MacNutt) Wiles all pre-deceased him.

Bob liked to tell the story that his career began when he was 10 years old. He worked at a local gas station filling oil cans from a large drum, earning ten cents per filled can! During his college years at Worcester Junior College he worked at Harrington-Richard Arms and Norton Company, both in Worcester. Bob graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute School of Industrial Management during his professional career as a Quality Control Manager. He worked 15 years each at Worcester Valve Company, Pres-Met Corp., both of Worcester, and Kidde-Fenwal in Ashland, where he was successful in obtaining the Industrial Standard ISO 2001.

In Bob's post retirement years, he was an Inspector for Arrowhead Industrial Services in North Carolina for Fire Protection equipment made at Fenwal and IEP Corp., in Northboro, MA. Bob also enjoyed working at Holden Wine and Spirits for 15 years, particularly helping customers with wine selections. He enjoyed gardening, stained glass and trips to Maine, but most of all, spending time with his friends and family.

Bob was a member of Rufus Putman Masonic Lodge, in Rutland, MA., he served on the Holden Fire Department in his high school years when the high school was next to the fire station and the school allowed a few of the young men to serve as volunteer fire fighters. He remembers working 48 hours straight following the tornado that went through Holden in 1953. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals in Holden and was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Funeral services for Bob will be held on Friday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
