Robert Rausch Obituary

Robert Rausch, 76

Bolton - Robert Rausch, 76, long time physical education teacher and athletic trainer, passed away peacefully at Marlborough Hospital on Thursday, February 8, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Charlene (Lowell) Rausch, and their son, Steven R. Rausch. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Rausch) Langlais & her husband Michael of Stowe, VT; his sister Virginia Fetsuga of Girard, PA; sister-in-law Charlotte Rausch of PA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and many dear friends.

Robert was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Matthew & Clarissa (Jeffrey) Rausch. A talented three sport student athlete, he graduated from Union High School in Girard, PA and achieved his Bachelor degree in Physical Education from Penn State University in 1967. He enjoyed one of his greatest life experiences as a student athletic trainer alongside Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions football team. He remained a dedicated alumni and devoted fan of Nittany Lions athletics throughout his lifetime. In 1970, he would go on to obtain his Master degree in Education from Boston University. He began his passionate life long career as a Physical Education teacher and Athletic Trainer at Lincoln Sudbury High School. He also served as the varsity baseball coach for many years. Two professional highlights during his time at LSHS included a three-week trip to the Soviet Union in 1976 to study their application of science to sports and was then selected as a trainer for the US Olympic Team in Colorado Springs in 1979. Bob enjoyed every minute of his career as an educator. After his time at LSHS, Mr. Rausch accepted a position with Lawrence High School where he taught for over a decade before retiring at the age of 69 from St. John's High School in Shrewsbury as head Athletic Trainer.

His great passion for sports, devotion to the sideline, and unwavering work ethic endeared him to countless student athletes throughout his celebrated tenure. He was a dedicated family man, loving husband, father, uncle, teacher, and friend. In recognition of Bob's love of Penn State University, guests are invited to wear blue and white while attending his Funeral Service at 11AM on Saturday, February 17, 2018 in the First Parish of Bolton, 673 Main St. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Bolton. A calling hour will be held in the church prior to services on Saturday morning from 10-11AM. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Robert Rausch to: Nashoba Athletics Booster Club, P.O. I have many fond memories of my Uncle Bob. I remember going to high school football and basketball games with my grandfather to watch Bob play. He would take time to play games with me and my cousins.

After I graduated high school and decided to go to Penn State he was so happy for me. He would share stories of his experiences at PSU and later his coaching various sports.

He was blessed to have married Charlene and to have Steven and Kimberly in his life. He was so proud of his family and it was a very difficult time when they lost Steven. Steven loved to write and I still have a book of his poems.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kim and family in this time of sorrow,

Royce and Marylou
