Roger Charpentier Obituary

Roger J. Charpentier, Jr., 68

Brookfield - Roger J. Charpentier, Jr., 68, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 23, 2015.

Roger grew up in North Brookfield, son of Roger J. and Margaret (Fuller) Charpentier, Sr. and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and lived in Brookfield all his life.

He was many things to many people, Husband, Son, Father, Grampy and EE. He was a friend, plumber and to all, he was an inspiration. He was never too busy to help anyone in need, always thinking of others before himself. Everyone who knew him was blessed to have him touch their lives.

He enjoyed working on cars, skiing, hiking, biking, woodworking and even mowing his field, but most of all his family and friends. He was a self-employed plumber, who could have retired but loved plumbing so much he said he would never retire.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Naval Construction Battalion known as MCB58, glad to be constructing and not destructing. Proud of his service to his country, he still remained friends with men he met while serving in the Navy and going to reunions. He was a member of the Massachusetts Plumbing Inspectors and volunteered his time for over 20 years helping those in need at Camp Sunshine and helping those less fortunate than himself. To Roger "Everyday is a good day, but some are better than others".

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Denise (Vaudreuil) Charpentier; two sons, Joseph R. and his wife Jenith of Worcester and Marc M. of Brookfield; a daughter, Marie Oprica and her husband George of Brookfield; the loves of his life his grandchildren, James, Vivienne, Anyssa, Mia, Miles and Simon; three brothers, Richard and his wife Kim, Robert and his wife Karen and Russell; three sisters, Maureen and her husband Gary Valler, Nancy and her husband Richard Nykiel and Joanne and her husband James Ford; two brother-in-laws, Wilfred Vaudreuil and Leo Vaudreuil and his wife Toni; many nieces and nephews and the most amazing lady in the world, his mother Margaret (Fuller) Charpentier.

A Funeral Mass for Roger will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Church in East Brookfield. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 4 to 7 PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in North Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Rd., Casco, ME 04015.

I had served with Roger in Vietnam with MCB58. In the following years I had worked in Spencer but didn't cross paths until a little over a year ago when we ran into each other in Big Y. We talked about old times and a few months later he invited me to have lunch with fellow Seabee Jerry Oleander and him. During that lunch we talked over old times and also discussed dealing with VA red tape he gave me some good device which I never got to thank him . I am very great fun for his help. He will be missed. God bless.
