Roger Johnson Obituary

Roger E. Johnson, 66, of Gardner Road, died peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2008 at UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, surrounded by his loving family after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Joan (Walker) Johnson; two daughters, Tammie S. Girouard and her husband Patrick of Hubbardston and Tracy L. Triveri and her husband Matthew of Centerville; he leaves his four loving grandchildren, Dylan, Ashley and Austin Girouard and Ryan Triveri; three brothers, Robert Johnson of Denton, Texas, Harry Johnson, Jr. and William Johnson, both of Rutland; three sisters, Eunice Thompson and Muriel Johnson, both of Sterling and Nancy Graves of Barre; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Grace Gullberg, predeceased him.

Roger was born in Holden, son of Harry C. and Olive (Hasselstrom) Johnson, and lived in Rutland before moving to Hubbardston many years ago. He was a graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War stationed in Germany. He was the owner and operator of Johnson Fence Company for 35 years. Previously he worked for the family business, Johnson Builders. He was a lifetime member of the Hubbardston Rod and Gun Club and a 25-year member of the "CASH" Committee (Civic Association Scholarship of Hubbardston). He was an avid stamp and coin collector, loved working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Roger at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 14th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the CASH Committee, P.O. Box 375, Hubbardston, MA 01452; or the Hubbardston Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 490, Hubbardston, MA 01452.
