Ryan Weekes Obituary
Worcester/Boston - Ryan Latoya Weekes passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, at 24, after a valiant battle with cancer. She is the daughter of Janice Ryan Weekes and Bishop Walter Weekes, Sr.; as well as, the beloved sister of Walter Weekes, Jr.
Ryan is a graduate of Holy Name Central Catholic High School and Roger Williams University, and played women's basketball at both. She was also very active in the Girls' Inc. basketball league, and later volunteered as a team coach. She volunteered at Worcester's District Attorney's Office and the Worcester Juvenile Court. Ryan was in the process of visiting and applying to law schools before her passing.
A Worcester Viewing will be held on Friday, March 27th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Belmont AME Zion Church at 55 Illinois Street. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 28th at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1257 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA; Viewing 9:00 to 11:00am, Funeral Service at 11:00 O'clock followed by Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Boston, MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial scholarship fund to honor Ryan's dedication to athletics and education. Contributions may be made to Circle of Nations, Inc., PO Box 20785, Worcester, MA 01602, or via online at www.gofundme.com/ryanweekesfund.

Ry, you were my best friend. A true companion for the past 11 years. I will hold tight all the memories we've made. From Playing together for 4 years at Holy Name, winning championships, countless bus rides, classes, pep rallies, sleep overs, AAU, church, prom, graduating high school and all of our wonderful college years, i will never forget you. I love you, and i will always miss you. I can still hear your laugh, and i thank God for allowing us to cross paths. I'm grateful you are no longer in pain. Please watch over us. I will see you again one day.

My niece was one of Ryan's teammates at HN, and our family absolutely loved watching her and that wonderful group of girls play. Ryan's smile lit up the court, and her incredible attitude and spirit was infectious. Our condolences to Bishop and Mrs. Weekes, and to her brother, Walter. May her memory be eternal.

I didn't know Ryan that well in high school, but I didn't need to. Her personality and kind heart always made you feel like a close friend. I was fortunate enough to have a couple classes with her senior year and even luckier to have her sing happy birthday to me! Her joyful personality is engraved in my memory and still reminds me that it is possible to make the best of every situation if you have a positive mindset. My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. I remember the last time I saw Ryan was at the Livestrong Event for the YMCA. Ryan was one of the youngest participants.
