One of my most sincere regrets was not re-connecting with Sean while we were both in Texas, and only a few hours apart. I just read TJ's not below and it made me think of how much I wish I'd gone to Prouty instead of that nunnery in Wusta. I wish Sean could come by my place in Texas and shoot pool for hours and listen to the same songs we did at the pool hall up at Bay Path. The go to Subway over by the old Fair parking lot for late night meals. Sean (aka Steve Perry sing-along master) was a great guy. He is missed dearly, no doubt. Ive got a photo somewhere of TJ, Dumas, Sean, and me (or somebody) on the floor of my folk's basement (the furnished side) playing knee football during an old superbowl from the late 80s(?). Good times. If i can find it, I'll post it.

Still can´t believe it. Not too long before we were texting and you were happy and doing well. You told me you had to tell me something and the next time I reached out you were gone. You´ve been on my mind heavy so I decided to finally say something. I can still hear your laugh. " love on the brain" that was your song and every time I hear it I think of you. It was funny how we met but we clicked immediately. You are missed Sean....

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.

You grow old, you grow apart. I hadn’t seen Sean for a long time when he approached me a little while back at Staples, where he followed me down an aisle and hovered behind me until I turned to accuse him of stalking, and when I saw his eyes I knew exactly who he was, and started to laugh. All those years, and he decided to mess with me, just to see what I’d do. Hah! We spent some time catching up. Golf pro? I guess that’s what happens when age puts a few seconds on your 40m time; you just have to get great at something else.
What can I say—Sean is a part of my life. Our times together created my childhood. Football, basketball, he used to drag me along every weekend. For two decades now I have lamented that Connie Mack Field remains untouched after a snowstorm because it never looked like that “back in the day”— all of our footprints (and knees, and elbows, and tailbones, shoulders, and foreheads) were all over that field, and Sean’s were the most. In flag football, I caught more passes for more touchdowns from that field marshal than Randy Moss did from the GOAT in 2007. In high school, I marveled at how far he could send a javelin. Kid had an arm, and he was FAST. And the yellow boomboxequally played in the “quiet room” in the library and on the town court; I got to know every Sting and Bangles song by heart. Dream of the Blue Turtles shirt ready for school, Broncos game on Sunday afternoon, dude was a character. He never did get to finish his limerick in English class, There once was a man from China, despite my assertions that it was perfectly clean, and indeed it was, but my opinion on acceptable prose was never taken seriously by the faculty of Lashaway Jr High School, and perhaps even hurt his case. Running under (or jumping off) the bridge near the shoe shop after a hot summer afternoon on the courts. And somehow we even managed to get a Coleman raft down the Sevenmile River and then to run it back through the wooded and farmed backyards of Podunk, just in time to make it to afternoon double session practice. Sean, thanks for the memories.
Fortunately my mother found one of our classic pictures, from the Grade 8 New York Trip. That’s us on Liberty Island, with the World Trade Center in the background. We were on the top of the observation deck a couple of hours later, overlooking lower Manhattan, Staten Island and New Jersey. He may have pitched a nickel over the side; I can neither confirm nor deny
Phil and Christine, you had some fun times with the ol' bro, too, admit it...! You got involved in some of those sports events and other shenanigans before graduation sent us in all kinds of directions. I am very sorry you lost your brother so prematurely.
Janet (I feel so awkward calling you that, even now, because I was always a smart-mouth but you were a boss (the best kind), one of the moms I respected and didn’t want to get in trouble with because I didn’t want to let you down), thank you for letting me hang out with your son all those weekends. Batzer, the Two Jays, Pat, Brent, Geno, my sister, any of the others who decided to join in here and there we had a blast. May you and your whole extended family be well (hard to believe we’ve entered a realm where children, nieces, and nephews are a reality), and cherish the memory of Sean.
