Sheila Groccia Obituary

Sheila Ann Groccia 75

Worcester - Sheila Ann (Schwartz) Groccia, 75 of Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday, January 31st, 2021.

Born in Ayer, on June 24, 1945, Sheila was the daughter of Max and Mary (Daley) Schwartz. She moved to the Worcester area in 1970, met the "love of her life" Gerald "Jerry" Groccia. They married on June 27, 1971. Sheila was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, raising her family with love and devotion. Sheila treasured her family especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; She embraced every moment she had with them. She was always there whenever her family needed her. No questions asked. Sheila worked more than 20 years for the University of Massachusetts Medical school as a Pharmacy Tech before retiring in 2001.

Sheila is survived by her husband Jerry with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this coming June 27th; her three children, Gerald "Jerry" Groccia, and his partner Amy Flagg, and Michael Groccia all of Worcester, Julie Groccia and her partner Carlos Villamarin of Paxton; 12 grandchildren, Carla, Christopher, Brittany, Tiffany, Angelina, Jessica, Kaleigh, Katie, Michael, Vincent, Olivia and Heather; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Bohanek of Shrewsbury, Gail Cohen and her husband Fred of Worcester; four sisters in law, Ducky Moroski, Bea Artuso, Chris Groccia and Betty Cameron; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Three brothers, Frank, Melvin, and Bruce Schwartz, and three sisters, Lillian Ruth Comstock, Joan Orlando and Nancy Keesler all predeceased her.

Sheila had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends easily everywhere she went. Besides spending time with her family, she loved shopping, browsing Facebook, and outings to the local casinos. Although our hearts are heavy, we celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in heaven watching over us. Sheila will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace, and unconditional love.

Due to COVID restrictions and out an abundance of caution, a celebration of Sheila's life will be held at a later date. THE MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
