Timothy Walker Obituary

Timothy J. Walker, Sr.

Worcester - Timothy J. Walker, Sr., 70, died Friday January 20, 2017 after a brief illness. He leaves his son, Timothy "Jamie" Walker, Jr. and his wife Danielle of North Grafton, his brother Herbie Degon of Auburn, and his beloved grandchildren Max, Evan, Nolan and William. He was predeceased by his ex-wife Angela (DeSalvio) Walker, his brother Thomas Walker, his mother Mary Degon, and his step-father Robert Degon.

Tim was born November 7, 1946, in Northbridge, a son of Robert Walker and Mary (Wood) Degon. He grew up in Worcester and graduated from Commerce High School, where he played hockey and was a Worcester City All Star. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. In 1974, Tim married Angela DeSalvio and had his only son, Jamie. He was a truck driver for most of his life, even though he thought that everyone else on the road was a nuisance.

The "Misfit", as he liked being called, most enjoyed being around his family and friends. A fixture around the hockey rink or baseball field, his greatest joy was watching his grandsons play, always letting them know exactly what he thought about their performance, good or bad. He also made sure the officials knew what he thought about their calls.

Tim's friends all tell the same tale. He was a son of a gun - funny, brash and loving. If he liked spending time with you, he gave you a nickname. He enjoyed causing trouble with friends at the Singletary Rod and Gun Club, watching car races with his brothers Herb and Tommy, taking trips to the casino with his uncle Hammy and visiting Maine with his cousin Dave.

Above all else, he was there for his son, Jamie. Tim took his son on overnight trips in the truck as he was hauling, spending time whenever he could. He shared his love of hockey, teaching Jamie how to play and coaching his teams. After Jamie's mother passed away in 1991, Tim stepped up to continue raising him on his own. He and Jamie were the best of friends.

Tim's funeral is Thursday, January 26, at 10AM, in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville; burial will follow in South Sutton Cemetery. Calling Hours are Wednesday, January 25, from 5-7PM, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Project New Hope, 70 James St., Suite 157, Worcester, MA 01603. To leave a condolence, please visit
