Wilfred Quiry Obituary

Wilfred "Bill" Quiry, Jr., 78

Holden - "Quitters never win and winners never quit!" was the lifetime mantra that Bill Quiry kept right until his passing on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, following his courageous battle with cancer.

Wilfred J. Quiry, Jr., lovingly known as "Bill" and "Junior" was born on July 4, 1938 in Worcester. A son of the late Wilfred Quiry, Sr. and Louise (Groccia) Quiry, he grew up in the Hartford, CT area. As a young man, Bill entered the United States Marine Corps and proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam. When he returned home, Bill started on a path to a long and successful career in real estate. He went on to own and operate Quiry Real Estate with offices in West Boylston, Shrewsbury and Sterling. Bill loved being able to help his clients, whether it was offering his best advice on selling a current home or assisting with clients realizing their dream of owning their first home. He later worked for Century 21/Walsh in Shrewsbury.

Bill also found time to volunteer. He spent several years as a child advocate with CASA, a member of the Massachusetts Real Estate Brokers Association and was a longtime member of the West Boylston Lions Club, where he also served as president. Bill's greatest legacy was in the way he treated his family and friends by always being present with a supporting voice, a sage piece of advice or with perfect strangers, making them feel as though he had known them for years. "They are no strangers in life, only friends you haven't met yet", was the way Bill approached everyone. He was known in his family as the guy who loved a party, especially on the 4th of July. He cherished the memories of spending time on Cape Cod, especially on the shores of Yarmouth. ... and then there were the yard sales and flea markets. It is widely known that Bill was a professional barterer. He loved sharing this talent with anyone who would go with him on the treasure hunt, especially his grandchildren.

Bill will be lovingly missed by his beloved wife, Sandra "Sandie" J. Paquette; his three children, Laurieann Quiry and her husband, David O'Neil of Savoy, MA, Steven Quiry of Kentfield, CA and Wendy Mitchell and her husband, Christopher of Mashpee; his wife's children, whom he loved like his own, Timothy Allen and his wife, Amanda of East Kingston, NH, Rebecca Terzian and her husband, Edward of Glendale, CA and Jessica Gregorczyk and her husband, Stephen on Rutland; and he was the proud Papa and Grandpa to his 10 grandchildren, Elias, Magdelin, Kyle, Daniel, Matthew, Mia, Andrew, Lily, Maxwell and Ella. He also leaves his four siblings, Richard Quiry and his wife, Annmarie of Milford, Vana Oslowski and her husband, Edward of Worcester, Doreen Bove and her husband, Frank of Auburn and Donna Vitale and her husband, Dan of Las Vegas, NV; as well as several nieces and nephews. A brother, Robert Quiry predeceased him.

Bill's family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of the PCU and ICU at St. Vincent Hospital for their loving care of Bill and the support offered to his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Bill's family on Saturday, January 14, at 11 a.m. at the Oakdale United Methodist Church , 15 North Main Street, West Boylston for a memorial service celebrating Bill's life. In lieu of flowers, please remember Bill with a donation to one of his favorite charities: The Nazareth Home for Boys in Leicester, the Shriners Hospitals, St. Jude Hospital or the ASPCA.
