William F. "Bill" Coughlin Sr.

William Coughlin Obituary

William F. "Bill" Coughlin, Sr., 65, of 390 Green St., died Sunday, November 9, 2008 in his home, after an illness. His wife of 30 years, Kathleen A. (Wetherell) Coughlin, died in 1996.

He is survived by two sons, William F. Coughlin, Jr., and his wife, Jill, and Kevin P. Coughlin, all of Sterling; two brothers, John Coughlin of Vero Beach, FL, and Robert Coughlin of New Bern, SC; two sisters, Dorothy Waugh of Hudson, and Gloria Margadonna of Cumberland, RI; two grandchildren, Nathan and Stephanie Coughlin; several nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much.

William was born and raised in Marlborough, the son of John and Eva (Messier) Coughlin. He was a graduate of Marlborough Vocational High School.

For many years before his retirement, he worked as a land surveyor for Thompson & Liston Associates, Inc. of Boylston. He had also been employed by Landtech Consultants of Chelmsford, and Gristmill Construction of Marlborough.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, and the Polish American Veterans.

He served with the US Army National Guard.

William was an avid golfer, and loved the outdoors. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

William's funeral will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008, with a service at 10:00 a.m. in the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William's memory to UMass Memorial Hospice, c/o UMass Memorial Foundation, Biotech One, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01613-9938.
