Albert L. Meric Jr., 91, of Tellico Village, beloved husband of Joan Smith Meric, with whom he cherished 67 years of marriage, died March 20, 2023.
Born May 13, 1931, in New Orleans, La., he was the son of the late Bernyce and Albert Meric. He graduated from Tulane University and entered the securities and commodities business. He joined Wright Investors' Service of Bridgeport, Conn., as a vice president and remained with the company until his retirement as executive vice president in 1997. He continued on the board of directors for Wright until 1998.
He was active in the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and was a frequent speaker at regional and national meetings on investment topics. He served as president of the Greenfield Hill Village Improvement Society of Fairfield, Conn., and on the Elementary School Building Committee for the town of Fairfield.
Albert is survived by a daughter, Linda Meric and her husband, Chuck Walker, of Westminster, Colo.; son, Dr. Albert Meric III of Knoxville; daughter, Dr. Susan Meric Taylor and her husband, Garry, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada; daughter, Sally Meric Coad and her husband, Warren, of Loudon; four grandchildren, Brian Gregg, Steven Gault, Kevin Gault and Kelly Meric; and five great-grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. March 24, 2023, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Lenoir City. Interment followed in Lakeview Cemetery in Lenoir City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the capital fund of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
