Donald Leroy Stegemoller Sr. passed away on February 13, 2025. He was the son of Leroy William Stegemoller and Elizabeth Pauline Stegemoller.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Carolyn Sue Stegemoller nee Hazelrigg.
Donald is survived by his brother, David Charles Stegemoller Sr. (Brenda Biggs) of Tellico Village, TN, as well as his four sons and their families: Donald Leroy Stegemoller Jr. (Tanya) of Murray, KY, Douglas Scott Stegemoller, (Lisa) of Peoria, AZ, Daniel Carl Stegemoller, (Pamela) of Puryear, TN, Darin Todd Stegemoller (Geneva) of West Linn, OR. He was a beloved grandfather to 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Donald graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1956. He then attended Purdue and Tri-State University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1961. He then earned his Professional Engineering License. His career spanned several decades in the construction and utilities industries: Indianapolis Power & Light (1961-1975), Gust K. Newberg Construction Company (1975-1993), Kenny Construction Company (1993-1997), Bechtel Construction Company (1997-2003), retiring in 2003.
Don and Carolyn moved 17 times across the country before settling into their dream home in Tellico Village, Tennessee, where they spent their golden years from 2003 to 2016. They enjoyed lake life to the fullest including many summers with family and friends, boating, endless happy hours, poker, golf, book club, sorority, quilting and gourmet dinner club … to name a few of their many activities. Their final move was to Murray, Kentucky, allowing them to be close to family members who assisted with their care.
Donald will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be coordinated at a later date where he will reunite with Carolyn.
The service will be held at Floral Park Cemetery near their childhood home in Indianapolis, IN.
