Allison Greenfield

Antioch - Age 96, died peacefully January 13, 2018, at the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro, where he received excellent care and compassion. He is survived by his sons, Michael and Stephen; grandchildren, Amber and Joshua; great-grandson Zachary; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Greenfield & Vicki Stinson Lamberth; sister-in-law Judi Ray Carter; first cousin Jan Osail Jones; and many good friends and church buddies. Born August 11, 1921 in Murfreesboro, TN to Walter & Alma Osail Greenfield, he grew up in Nashville and Giles County, TN and Alabama. At sixteen, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. In March 1941, age nineteen, he volunteered for the Army and was assigned to Ft. Benning, Georgia to the 2nd Armored Division being formed by General George Patton. In WWII, he fought as an infantry sergeant in Patton's Third Army in North Africa and Sicily in 1942-43. In 1944-45, he fought in Normandy, through France, Belgium, the Rhineland and Germany; before being severely wounded on January 3, 1945 in the Battle of the Bulge. He spent the next 24 months in hospitals before his discharge in April, 1947. Upon discharge, he met the sister of a fellow wounded veteran and three weeks later he married Josephine "Jo" Ray. They were married for 62 years before her death in 2010. He was a linotype operator at E.T. Lowe Publishing Company for 35 years before retiring in 1982. In East Nashville, he attended Chapel Avenue Church of Christ and on moving to Antioch in 1970, Tusculum Church of Christ. He could build most anything, gardened and landscaped his homes, was well-read, mentally and physically active, loved and supported his family. He didn't tell you to do one thing then he'd do another. He led by example and was a man of his word. He was truly a good man. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 22, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, HICKORY CHAPEL, 5852 Nolensville Road, by Ron Kleine. Interment Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel Directors 615-331-1952.
