Clyde ALEXANDER Obituary

ALEXANDER, JR., Clyde Wayne, MD Age 72, of Hot Springs, VA, died in Nantucket Thursday, September 9, 2010 of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born January 8, 1938 in Eldorado, AR, the oldest of four children born to Annette Compton Alexander and Clyde Wayne Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents. Wayne is survived by his wife, Kay Keeble Alexander; his three children, Wayne Alexander III and his wife, Vicki, of Niceville, FL; Allyson Alexander LeMay and her husband, David, of Richmond, Virginia; and Todd Alexander and his wife, Kristi, of Nashville, TN. Wayne had a special bond with his ten grandchildren, Olivia Stevenson, Ally Stevenson and Robin Stevenson, all of Richmond; Connor Alexander and Brooks Alexander of Niceville; and Anna Kate Alexander, Emily Alexander, Elizabeth Alexander, David Alexander and Andi Alexander, all of Nashville. He is survived by a brother, Dr. Charles Alexander and his wife, Lauren, of Oxford, MS; and two sisters, Jane Alexander of Nashville and Janet Coburn of St. Petersburg, FL. Wayne spent his childhood in Shreveport, LA and in Jackson, MS. He attended Louisiana State University and graduated from The University of Mississippi and The University of Mississippi Medical School. After graduation he served for 6 years in The United States Air Force. Wayne practiced Anesthesiology in Nashville for 30 years. He was a member of The Board of Trustees of both Westside Hospital and Centennial Medical Center. He served as the Chief of Anesthesiology at Westside Hospital and was the Medical Director at Parkside Surgery Center and Centennial Surgery Center. He was a member of The Society of Critical Care Medicine and The National Association for Ambulatory Care and was a Diplomate of The American Board of Anesthesiology. He was a member of the Belle Meade Country Club and the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville. He attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hot Springs. After retiring Wayne and his wife bought a 1780s log cabin in Hot Springs which they turned into an antique shop. For nine years they owned and operated Mustoe House Antiques which featured a lush English garden, architectural and garden antiques and an art gallery. Wayne was the happiest when he was working in his gardens. He recently graduated from The Master Gardener Intern Program in Virginia. Visitation with the family will be at his home in Hot Springs Saturday, September 18th from 4 to 6 p.m. Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 779, Hot Springs, VA 24445 for emergency needs that arise in Bath County.
